We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Credit Risk Manager, who will be responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing the credit risk framework for Katsu MFB, including the assessment, monitoring, and management of credit exposures across all lending portfolios.
The role also requires end-to-end risk analysis and oversight for the commodity trading arm, ensuring that commodity-backed transactions, counterparties, and supply chain exposures meet required credit and risk standards.
This function plays a central role in ensuring regulatory compliance, safeguarding asset quality, and supporting sustainable loan book growth.

What You Will Be Doing
Credit Risk Management & Policy Development
Develop and implement Katsu’s credit risk policies, underwriting standards, and risk appetite framework in line with CBN regulations.
Review and approve loan applications within delegated risk approval limits, ensuring adherence to underwriting standards.
Monitor credit portfolio quality and conduct periodic stress testing, scenario analysis, and portfolio analytics.
Lead continuous improvement of credit processes, decision systems, and risk controls.
Loan Evaluation & Approval Oversight
Conduct detailed credit evaluations for micro, SME, retail, and structured lending facilities.
Evaluate commodity-backed financing, warehousing transactions, and inventory-backed exposures.
Assess counterparty risks including suppliers, off-takers, aggregators, and warehouse partners.
Analyze commodity price movements, supply chain risks, and market volatility.
Ensure proper collateral management, stock verification, and monitoring of inventory movement.
Implement risk controls for commodity financing such as margin requirements, stock audits, insurance, and documentation integrity.
Monitoring, Reporting & Compliance
Track portfolio performance including PAR, NPL, roll rates, and early warning signals.
Develop monthly and quarterly risk reports for management, the Board, and regulators.
Ensure full compliance with CBN Microfinance guidelines, internal policies, and audit requirements.
Lead remediation plans for credit exceptions, operational lapses, and regulatory findings.
Collaboration & Cross-functional Support
Work closely with Credit Sales, Operations, Compliance, and Finance to maintain portfolio quality.
Provide training for loan officers and business units on credit risk, fraud prevention, and documentation standards.
Support system development and automation of risk frameworks, including credit scoring models and data-driven approvals.
Loan Recovery & Remedial Management
Oversee high-risk accounts and develop remedial action plans.
Partner with collections and legal teams on enforcement, restructuring, and recovery strategies.
Identify systemic gaps contributing to delinquency and propose process improvements.

Special Skills and Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in finance, Economics, Accounting, Statistics, Business Administration, or related field.
5–8 years of hands-on credit risk management experience, preferably within a regulated financial institution, fintech, microfinance bank, or impact-focused fund.
Working knowledge of commodity trading risk, warehouse financing, and supply chain risk is a strong advantage.
Deep understanding of credit risk management, financial statements, ratio and cash flow analysis, and loan structuring.
Familiarity with the Nigerian credit market, commodity lending environment, and credit bureau integration.
Strong command of Microsoft Excel, credit scoring systems, and financial modelling tools.
Experience in regulatory frameworks (CBN, IFRS 9, Basel) and credit risk control procedures.
ACA, ACCA, ICAN, or related professional qualifications is a plus.
