The HDD/HTB Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing all Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) and Horizontal Trenchless Boring (HTB) activities across assigned projects. The role ensures technical accuracy, operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and safe delivery of trenchless crossings in line with project specifications and industry standards. The position also provides strategic leadership to HDD/HTB crews, vendors, and subcontractors to ensure quality, cost, and schedule performance.

Under minimal supervision, provide direct instruction and supervision to junior Field Engineers on day-to-day worksite activities.
Provide resolution to a diverse scope of complex problems at the drilling site, requiring analysis of data and broad knowledge of the product line.
Under general supervision, provide on-site supervision of the Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) process, including projection of bore paths to predetermined target coordinates.
Understand principles of Bottom Hole Assembly (BHA) selection and HDD performance, ensuring assemblies are completed as planned with correct make-up torque, doping, and handling.
Oversee and ensure successful HDD operations within the division, achieving defined outcomes while maximizing processes and procedures in line with cost-effectiveness, quality, safety, and operational efficiency expectations.
Lead comprehensive planning, coordination, and execution of HDD projects, collaborating with stakeholders to establish objectives, timelines, and budgets while ensuring effective progress and resource allocation.
Oversee training, mentoring, evaluation, and performance management of HDD drill operators and support staff, fostering teamwork, safety, continuous improvement, and high productivity.
Oversee utilization, maintenance, and preventive servicing of HDD equipment, trucks, and related resources to ensure optimal performance, reliability, inventory control, and adherence to maintenance schedules.
Establish and enforce quality control measures, working with planning and design teams to ensure bore accuracy, infrastructure protection, operational excellence, and sustained client satisfaction.
Instil and maintain a strong safety culture across HDD operations through implementation of protocols, regular training, compliance with regulations, and proactive risk mitigation.
Prepare and manage project budgets, monitor expenditures, deliver financial reports to senior management, and identify cost-saving and efficiency opportunities.
Provide liaison support by managing community relations, regulatory engagements, and property owner interactions to ensure uninterrupted operations.
Promote continuous improvement and innovation by staying informed on industry trends, adopting best practices, and implementing process enhancements to improve operational efficiency and divisional performance.
The Job Requirements
Requirements
Academic: University Degree in Engineering or Applied Sciences
Professional certification or HDD-specific training is an added advantage
At least 15 years in the Oil and Gas Construction industry, with experience
in pipeline / fibre cable installation and a minimum of 5 years in a
leadership role
Extensive experience in HDD operations, including hands-on experience as an
HDD drilling superintendent
Demonstrated experience managing large-diameter pipeline crossings and
complex geology
