About the Job

Malaria Consortium is recruiting for a Driver to join our team in FCT, Nigeria.

Drivers are a key part of the Malaria Consortium team, and our drivers need to be enthusiastic people who are reliable and able to drive safely, this job holder is responsible for operating the vehicle and ensures general safety of assigned vehicle in the field offices.

The driver would be responsible for picking up and driving the project officials, pickups and other scheduled appointments. And also, will be responsible for performing minor maintenance tasks on the vehicles to assure the functionality of the vehicle.

The officer working under the line-management of the Admin Officer. Would deliver aspects of the project as per the specified job tasks and expected deliverables.

Your Job Description

Safely Transport Persons and Goods (70%)

  • Safely transport Malaria Consortium employees and goods as directed by the line manager.
  • Always be in possession of a valid driving license and personal identification.
  • Respect and observe Nigeria traffic regulations, speed limits, and adjust speed according to road and risk conditions.
  • Observe Malaria Consortium standard operating procedures for vehicles.
  • Observe manufacturer technical conditions of use for all vehicles.
  • Report any accident immediately to the line manager and the nearest police station for insurance purposes.
  • Assist in loading and off-loading of goods and fetching water.
  • Ensure the safety of vehicles assigned at all times.
  • Ensure passengers wear seat belts at all times.

Vehicle Maintenance and Checklist for Field Trips (20%)

  • Carry out daily and weekly preventive maintenance and report any vehicle issues to the line manager.
  • Ensure vehicles always have sufficient fuel.
  • Diligently update movement and fuel consumption logbooks.
  • Submit logbooks to the line manager to support monthly vehicle and fuel consumption reporting.
  • Ensure vehicle insurance and licenses are valid before driving.
  • Alert the line manager when vehicle service and maintenance schedules are due.
  • Clean the vehicle internally and externally as required and keep it clean at all times.
  • Confirm all items listed in the logbook are present before departure.
  • Perform daily pre-departure vehicle checks including fuel, oil, coolant, lights, tyres, horn, brakes, windows, mirrors, tools, and equipment.
  • Inspect and prepare the vehicle one day before scheduled field trips.
  • Prepare additional materials for trips as required, such as spare fuel, flags, stickers, medical kits, food kits, and spare tyres.
  • Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly vehicle checks.
  • Behave professionally at all times, recognizing that public behavior reflects Malaria Consortium.
  • Ensure official vehicles are parked safely within office premises and approved locations.

Security, Communication, and Miscellaneous Duties (10%)

  • Ensure vehicle radio communication equipment is functional.
  • Maintain regular radio communication with the base station during travel.
  • Observe and adhere to security guidelines within programme areas.
  • Support the Logistics Officer in gathering and analysing route-related security information.
  • Advise on route security and suitability for Malaria Consortium vehicle travel.
  • Promptly report all security incidents or concerns to the Logistics Officer.
  • Carry out delegated tasks such as mail delivery, bill payments, and staff or visitor transportation.
  • Organise tasks efficiently to minimise vehicle usage, fuel consumption, and wear.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Logistics Officer or senior staff.
  • Follow Malaria Consortium security protocols at all times.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

  • Minimum qualification of O’ Level Certificate
  • Honest, hardworking, and pleasant personality with effective interpersonal skills
  • Fluent in English
  • Valid driving licence
  • Previous experience working as a driver (minimum of 5 years’ experience)

Work-Based Skills and Competencies

Essential:

  • Honest, hardworking, and pleasant personality with effective interpersonal skills

Desirable:

  • Knowledge or skills in basic mechanics
  • Willingness to learn about security protocols
  • Residents in the project location are strongly advised to apply
