Description Of Duties

Under the direct supervision of the Chief Technical Advisor and the general guidance of the Director of ILO Nigeria office, the driver will perform the following tasks:

  • Drive office vehicles for official purposes.
  • Meet official personnel at the airport and facilitate immigration and customs formalities.
  • Collect and deliver mail, pouch, documents, and other items.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle: check oil, water, battery, brakes, tires, etc.
  • Perform minor repairs and arrange for other repairs, and ensure that the vehicle is kept clean.
  • Keep records of vehicle use, daily mileage, gas consumption, oil changes, greasing, and other services.
  • Ensure compliance with rules and regulations in case of an accident.
  • Stay informed of the security situation and report risks to the office.
  • Perform miscellaneous office support functions such as messenger services and photocopying.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor and Director.
Education

Required Qualifications: Secondary education, valid driver’s license, knowledge of driving rules and regulations, and skills in minor vehicle repairs.

Experience

Two years’ work experience as a driver with a safe driving record. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in technical cooperation projects, UN organisations, or donor-funded projects.

Languages

Good knowledge of a Nigerian local language and the ability to communicate in English.

  • High level of driving and vehicle repair and maintenance skills.
  • Ability to maintain accurate vehicle usage records.
  • Ability to drive safely under local conditions.
  • Follow instructions and undertake minor repairs.
  • Lift heavy mailbags and boxes.
  • Work in a polite, courteous, and cooperative manner.
Reporting Lines

The driver will report to the Chief Technical Advisor and be under the overall guidance of the Director of the ILO Country Office in Nigeria. The driver will also receive administrative and financial guidance from the Admin and Finance Assistants, Operations Officer, Security Officer, and the ILO Nigeria Office.

Responsibilities include maintaining official vehicles, logging daily activities, and complying with ILO rules, regulations, and strategies in line with country programmes.
